Founder & CEO
Rick Tumlinson is widely known as the “godfather” of the commercial space movement. A six-time witness before the U.S. Congress, he co-founded the XPRIZE and helped shape the shift from government-only exploration toward a more open, entrepreneurial, and commercially driven frontier in space for investors, founders, policymakers, and the next generation of builders.
Founding GP
John Bohlmann is an early founding General Partner at SpaceFund and a 5x founder focused on scaling high-impact technology companies. CFO
Jaime Velasco is a finance executive with international experience spanning companies from $5 million in revenue to Fortune 100 enterprises. SpaceFund doesn’t just invest in space — we are active and engaged in the space revolution, helping shape the U.S. and global conversation about our future on the frontier through research, commentary, public appearances, and strategic engagement.
The space industry is gaining more momentum now than at any time in human history. Due to technological improvements, increased government space budgets, and a changing regulatory environment, SpaceFund expects this trend to accelerate in 2025.
SpaceFund presents research showing the space industry is weakly correlated to eight tested market indices and alternative investment asset classes. That lack of correlation, coupled with the industry’s consistent growth, could offer valuable diversification and hedging opportunities for investors.
There are many great startups that may generate significant returns, but many do not pass the difficult threshold of being venture-investable because their return profile does not close the VC equation. It is a critical framework for founders building in frontier markets.
Companies often use government grants, partnerships, or indications of interest to prove that a market exists or that a company will be profitable. But one customer does not a business make — a foundational lesson for building resilient space startups.
